Initially, the family seemed perfect, with Yuanzhou feeling a mix of brotherly jealousy and pride towards Qinjuan. However, after their mother became pregnant again, their father changed, becoming abusive and taking his anger out on Yuanzhou and their mother.

Yuanzhou endured his father's abuse, which in turn influenced him to bully Qinjuan non-brotherly. After the birth of their youngest sister, Chuntao, their mother died due to maternal complications, causing the family to spiral further into dysfunction.
